How do our Prints Unlimited clients combine their favorite pastimes? Kim and Don intertwined their love of the Chicago Cubs and art collecting through the recent acquisition of a contemporary art print. The print is the result of a collaboration between the Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon and artist Jason Skeldon. “We purchased a signed work from the collection Put the Art Back in Thee Game during a Maddon Art Charity Event in Chicago in August 2018.”
Kim and Don are self-proclaimed lifetime Cubs fans. They look up to Joe Maddon’s philosophy behind the game and how he linked that into his art collection. The artwork traces back to Maddon’s belief that baseball is an artistic game and Major League players, as with all professional athletes, are artists. This strategy of promoting baseball creates curiosity and attracts a wider audience to the sport while promoting the arts in Chicago. The artwork is Maddon’s ideas brought to life by Jason Skeldon, an urban artist, through the use of pop culture images and associative word art.
Their choice of print followed an ideal that was dear to them as well. “We chose the Uncle Sam print. Uncle Sam is about ‘we want you… To be yourself.’ The critical phrase there is ‘the more freedom given the greater respect and discipline returned.’”
The print possesses a metallic sheen and in reaching out to Prints Unlimited, Kim and Don knew they wanted it custom framed to complement and showcase the brilliant finish. They had both purchased prints from our staff in the past in addition to having positive experiences having their artwork framed, so it was a simple process to collaborate to find the perfect options for this print. “The staff at Prints Unlimited made suggestions, presented options, and helped us to narrow down two or three favorite ideas until we hit on the spectacular finish! Our experience was very positive, timely, and completely satisfying!”
To complement and accentuate the metallic finish, our framing experts used a black frame with a silver edge and a double mat of silver and black. Upon completion of their custom framed print, they “proudly and prominently” displayed it near the entry of their condo.
